Bangladesh - situation of the Grameen Bank (August 9, 2012)

France is concerned by the Bangladeshi authorities’ decision to give the government-appointed chairman of the Grameen Bank Board control over the appointment of members to the selection committee responsible for choosing the bank’s managing director. Ensuring transparency in the selection of the managing director, as well as the independence of the Grameen Bank, is essential.

The Grameen Bank is internationally renowned for its efforts on behalf of the neediest. France hopes this microfinance institution will be able to continue operating without interference.
