Cultural, scientific and technical cooperation/B_descRubAff1>
Our cooperative relations in terms of education and culture are progressing. The Mixed Commission held its 11th session in Paris in March 2009, in the presence of the Secretary of State Alain Joyandet. The reform underway of French teaching in public and private secondary schools is our priority. It will reinforce the scope of our actions, notably in higher education (inauguration of a Centre of French Studies at the public University of Bahrain), culture (heritage and museography) and health (an agreement on training Bahraini doctors in France).
Bahrain would like to see a French University established in the Kingdom. Discussions are underway with a possible partner, with the emphasis to be placed on technical teaching. The French Arabian School of Management and Finance was created in December 2007 with financial support from France and from BNP Paribas, in the form of a partnership between the Paris Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), the regional university based in Manama. Its ambition is to provide training in management and finance as well as in health sector management. With the Paris Chamber of Industry and Commerce having withdrawn from this project, the AGU is working towards finalising a partnership with another French body.
