Angola – France-Angola Economic Forum (Paris, December 18, 2014)

Mr. Fabius and Mr. Chicoti will then participate, at the Ministerial Conference Center, in the closing session of the France-Angola Economic Forum, hosted by the Quai d’Orsay and UBIFRANCE, in partnership with MEDEF International. More than 250 participants, business representatives and institutional economic actors are expected to attend.

Political relations

Angola and France are engaged in ongoing political dialogue, particularly on issues of regional security (the Great Lakes region, the Gulf of Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, the Sudans, the Sahel). The two countries have many economic interests in common and have developed active cooperation, most notably in the field of higher education.

Nicolas Sarkozy made a State visit to Luanda on 23 May 2008. Prior to this, Jean-Marie Bockel, Secretary of State for Cooperation and Francophony, visited the country on 15 November 2007. The Presidential visit, renewing old bonds of trust and mutual respect, provided an opportunity for a wide-ranging interview between the two Heads of State, who agreed to maintain regular consultations on international issues, in particular those affecting Africa.

In 2009, Anne-Marie Idrac, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, took part in the First Franco-Angolan Business Forum, held in Luanda from 26 to 28 May.

More recently, Angola’s Environment Minister, Fatima Monteiro Jardim, attended the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille (11-17 March 2012) and the Angolan Foreign Minister, Mr.Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, visited Paris from 21 to 23 March 2012. His visit further strengthened the relations between France and Angola, addressing several areas of partnership (political dialogue, economic cooperation, consular affairs).
